Our fearless authors arrived in Providence, Rhode Island before the crack of dawn!

Then on to downtown and the convention center…

The Providence Convention Center at 1 Sabin St. Don’t let this angle fool you; it’s huge!

The vendor room before the wares are set up.

Don Franklin was busy selling his horror novel, “Reaper’s Walk: Hellstone”

Don and his son drove all the way from Vermont!

Not to be outdone, Armand Inezian was peddling his own vampire thriller, VampCon!

Armand is wearing his favorite t-shirt which features an old book cover to Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. Continue reading

Backups are wonderful things…

Our main Greyhart computer has died 😦

Thank goodness it was well backed up and a lot of critical data was in the Cloud -:)

So there’s some frantic work getting a replacement into operation but everything should be running faster and shinier than before within a day or so.

When I used to run software teams, I gave staff a very hard time for losing valuable data if their hard disks died, as used to happen a lot more often in years gone by. There was no sympathy from me for professionals who hadn’t the discipline to back up their machines. These days it’s even easier with so much cloud storage, USB pendrives, USB hard drives, Dropbox etc.  though there’s usually something obscure that wasn’t considered in a backup plan.

Use my unfortunate experience and check you’re backed up today!

An illustrated guide to zombies… in LEGO

What perfect timing! Today is Halloween, and I just happened to stumble across a blog called Bricks of the Dead. It’s main thrust is an ongoing epic zombie webcomic filmed in Lego-vision. I had a quick look at the first few episodes. My son was very impressed. I would ask him for a comment but he’s out trick-or-treating right now.

Go take a look http://bricksofthedead.com/extras/zombies-an-illustrated-history/

Maybe one day we’ll have a Lego version of Death Flu!

And here’s a toy that came free with The Sun newspaper today. It goes really fast.

[update] Elliot asked where the pirates and knights have gone. Well, speaking as a member of Lego Club Jr. (on behalf of my son, honestly) I can say they’re still there, but relegated to the occasional appearance. Lego seems to bring out new series and then discontinue them after a couple of years. They’ve just done that with the alien invasion series, which I was rather hoping my son would get into. But you needn’t fear Lego zombies nibbling your extremities because there are some Lego heroes to battle the monsters. Here they are now, looking very steampunk.

VampCon author, Armand Inezian, writes up his ‘mini book tour’. Hope you had fun, Armand.

Armand Inezian's avatarInezian's Notes.

Wednesday October 24 marked the night of the official VampCon release event at the Roslindale Public Library in Boston! I was lucky enough to have my good friend Eric along to take some great photographs.

Oct 24- VampCon Release Event @ The Roslindale Public Library- photos by Eric Sutton.

The very next day, I was back on my mini book tour trail with a visit to the Curry College Library in Milton, Massachusetts. Unfortunately, I had to rely on myself to shoot the photos at Curry College, which means that I didn’t get very good ones. Lesson learned, in the future I’m going to have to be more proactive about taking pics at events.

Oct 25- VampCon Reading and Discussion at the Curry College Library- mediocre photos by me!

Both reading went well, and were attended by some old friends as well as some folk whom I’m never met before…

After 10 Generations, the Reaper has returned…

We’re proud to announce that Reaper’s Walk: Hellstone , the first of a five-part series by New England writer Don Franklin, is published today by Greyhart Press.

If demons, werewolves, magic, twin grandmother/ grandaugher teams, private armies, a vampire from Anglo-Saxon England, and the Devil himself are not enough to tempt you to pick up this fast-paced supernatural thriller, just look the Grim Reaper in the eye as he patrols his patch of cursed land in Washington DC — the Reaper’s Walk. Look him in the eye and explain why you don’t want to read the book featuring him on the front cover, courtesy of Banchick Illustration. The only way for you to avoid the Reaper’s eyeless gaze is to buy this book, honest!

Or – if you don’t believe me – watch the trailer instead…

Out now in PAPERBACK amazon.com | amazon.co.uk and EBOOK amazon.com | amazon.co.uk |  Smashwords and coming soon to Barnes & Noble, Sony, iTunes and other eBook retailers
