Our first novelette: The Cookie Tin

Following on from my post on May 5th, I am delighted to announce the publication of our first novelette from our author Nigel Edwards. Nigel has crafted a clever and suspense-filled fantasy about an emotion machine, a device for two people to share emotions. I love the sort of story that poses the question what if…? That’s kind of why I love short fiction and Nigel has penned a worthy addition to that genre.

Novelettes and novellas

Edited. July 2018. This is a post I wrote in 2011 showing my thoughts at the time. Greyhart Press still operates but is not accepting submissions at this time, and is not likely to do so in the future. Thank you, Tim.

One of the possibilities in e-publishing that excites me is that shorter length fiction can be presented in the same way as full length novels, rather than as their gawky little sibling. That’s one reason why at Greyhart Press we’re packaging each short story as a separate e-book with its own cover and afterword, just like a novel.

In the world of the Kindle, iPad and Sony eReader (etc.) building and distributing an e-book for a 10,000 word story is just as easy as one of 30,000 or 120,000 or 500. Authors are liberated to tell the story at the right length for that story.

So expect to see plenty of love given here at Greyhart Press to stories that are longer than shorts and shorter than novels: novelettes and novellas. In fact, I hope to be able to announce news on that subject in a few days. Continue reading

We’re trickling into the retailers. Here’s No More Than Human at the Sony Store. As they arrive, the detail pages on this site are getting updated with the additional URLs for the new stores.

Greyhart Press spotted on Apple iTunes

Our first books are appearing at iTunes. So far I can only find them by Googling, rather than the iTunes Power Search. The detail page we provide for each story (for example this one) has links to the entries in iTunes, diesel, B&N and others.

If anyone knows what stupidity prevents me from searching in Apple’s store then please leave a comment.

Unfortunately, I don’t expect the next batch of six stories to appear in iTunes for another 3-4 weeks. They are on their way, though.

An update on our official launch

I’ve been very busy readying everything for our official launch, which will be straight after Easter. Part of what I’m doing in advance is to try out some of the mechanics of publishing on the semi-quiet, so that I can make and correct mistakes before letting out the throttle.

I started out with publishing a few stories from myself. However, proud though I am of my stories, Greyhart Press is an indie publisher, not a self-publisher. So I am chuffed to announce today that I’ve moved to publishing another author. If everything comes right in time, Paul will be joined by another four authors before the end of May. Continue reading

A new publisher of great e-books? Shhh…! Don’t tell anyone!

You might have stumbled across us here because you’ve read one of our first e-books. If so, then thanks for your custom and your interest. I hope you enjoyed us so far. We’re proud of our initial few e-books but we’re keeping quiet while we test the publication and distribution process, just in case we encounter any problems that need ironing out.

Don’t worry we will be releasing a number of great short stories from a range of authors during early Spring 2011.

In the meantime: shhh! Don’t tell anyone!
